Thanks for the share Tim. I appreciate the honesty about what it feels like to get slammed by trolls and how to deal with it. Understanding a troll is hard. It takes patience. Listening, like you said. It takes asking them questions. It also takes not caring what others think of you.

The root of anger, revenge, negativity, violence, pain, comes from us not understanding ourselves, our pasts, or how we want to go about our futures. How we live now, how we treat people now, how we debate or argue, how we write, how we love, how we work, how we share, it’s all in flux because of this addictive internet thing — where this is a layer between you and the real human you are communicating to.

It’s a scary thing. We are on the precipice of a new age, a pivot point, where the internet is a cess pool of anger, hatred, racism, bigotry, sexism, and futility. I have fallen prey to unleashing my anger onto the world in it. The cure is knowing we can evolve and grow and build our own self-awareness. Then as we do that, we don’t have to fear someone’s opinion or facts or subjective truths, that we can just share and enjoy a new perspective.

Fear isn’t the best way, but I think many Americans feel it and don’t know what to do about it. So instead of examine their own inner disdain, let’s just bombard others with it.
